Briefs

A New TV Channel

"A website for a new TV channel (to include a minimum of three hyperlinked pages with original imsages, audio and video extract), together with two of the following three options:

  • A newspaper advertisment for the channel;

  • A double page spread for a listings magazine, focused on channel's launch;

  • An animated ident sequence for the channel."

This brief was singled out by the group as one of our final choices. The main advantage of this breif was that we had a lot of cross-media content to work with as well as having a straightforward plan for what to do, however we decided against it as the amount of content also worked against us, as well as the challenge of custom making a website without the use of website creation software such as dreamweaver.

Short Film

"A short film in its entirety, lasting approximately five minutes, which may be live action or animated or a combination of both, together with two of the following three options

  • A poster for the film

  • A radio trailer for the film

  • A film magazine review page featuring the film"

This immediatley jumped out as a strong contender for our breif as we all had experience of some sorts in making short films and it also allowed us to develop our own storyline. We also had acheived good grades in our previous work so we felt we could easily work to a high standard due to our previous experience.  The main we opted not for this breif is that it was very casting heavy, and due to te ambguity of the breif we would have develop a plot from the basics.

Film Trailer

"A promotion package for a new film, to include teaser trailer, together with two of the following three options

-A website homepage for the film

-A film magazine front cover, featuring the film

-A poster for the film"

Out of all of our final breifs, this was our least favourite brief for a variety of reasons, the most prevelant being that we would have to develop a plot for an entire length film as to be able to extract clips to be able to make up an entire trailer. As well as this there is a huge element of suspense that must be built in a film trailer, adding to the pressure put onto the group as we would not only have to worry about plot, but also the element of suspense. As well as this we would also have to find multiple locations and codes of dress to match the different scenes in the film. Becuase of these reasons we opted out of doing a film trailer.

Music Video

"A promotion package for the release of an album, to include a music promo video, together with two of the following three options:

-A website homepage for the band

-A digipak for the album's release

-A magazine advertisement for the digipak"

The music video is the brief we finally decided to produce as it provided the least challenges, and allowed us to express our creativity. The only challenges we faced with the music video was picking a song as well getting the soundtrack synced up with our performance element however we decided that with the correct casting and careful control over performance we could reduce this problem. The music video provided us with many options in both the choiceof song and thus the direction/theme of the video as well as the ancilleries.
