Digipak Research

The digipak was first trademarked by AGI-Shorewoood and consists of a book style paperboard or card stock outer case with one or more plastic trays capable of holding a CD. Unlike its alternative, a Jewel Case, which is a three piece plastic CD case that features a folding plastic case, a plastic CD tray and normally space for liner notes and back cards, the digipak is normally printed straight on to with the inclusion of other notes and booklets in pouches created within the digipak.

The Jewel case is much more popular than the digipak due to its cost effectiveness and ease of production, meaning that digipaks are normally used when exclusivity is wanted or a slightly smaller artist is promoting an album. This fits perfectly with our song choice as while two door cinema club have gained popularity in recent years, they are still not classed as a mainstream band and so would be the artists that would possibly be looking at creating a digipak.

When first studying digipaks I found many different templates relating to the number of panels, inclusion of pockets and general layout, I have opted to go for a 4 panel digipak with a single panel also having a pocket in which lyric books, biographys and other general information about the album and artist can be placed.

This was the first album released by two door cinema club. It features a large print of the band name, possibly due to the fact that this was a debut album and so the band was not already established and known.

The album emphasises the synergy of the brand with both the title of the album and the band name appearing in the same distinctive font with the hollow O. The actual photo is also very important as it appears very vintage, which indicates the possible presence of a sepia filter and lowered saturation.

This vintage look as well as the cat, a popular internet and indie icon appeals to the our target audience, who fall into a demogtraphic most likely to use instagram, facebook and other social networking sites, thus by adding popular filters like seen on such networks, the band can relate to the audience and capivate their attention
