Below I have researched into the different genres of music, their features and accompanying generic conventions

 

Classical

Pop

  • fasionable and recent outfits worn by artists

  • narrative as well as performance based videos, focusing on lyrics or theme of song

  • fast paced editing

  • high key upbeat lighting matches the happy mood

 

Rock

  • Camera techniques include long shots, fast paced editing and very handheld camerawork

  • Huge performance element with focus on instruments

  • music is rebellious and stands against society

  • possibly demoinc or fire themes

 

Dance

  • unnaturually high key lighting, witha wide range of colors

  • face paced camerawork to match fast song

  • upbeat narrative following a charecter through a trial or party

  • dancers and performers or party/rave goers

 

R&B and Rap

  • storyline focusing around 

  • themed around parties or clubbing, includes feelings of attractions and linked to the rave scene

  • rarely feature a narrative and instead focus on the dancing/party

  • dancers and performers or party/rave goers

 

Electronic

  • Strong use of lighting effects and flashes often actually within the scene, not post production

  • themed around parties or clubbing, includes feelings of attractions and linked to the rave scene

  • rarely feature a narrative and instead focus on the dancing/party

  • dancers and performers or party/rave goers

 

Indie Rock

  • Color corrections and cool-color overlays are used to emphasise the mood of the song

  • Videos have a strong narrative elements, many of the times is not linked to the song itself

  • cinematic effects used to create a strong cinematic feeling

  • dancers and performers or party/rave goers
