Digipak

As part of the music video breif I had to make two of three ancilleries, out of these three I opted to go for a magazine advertisment and a digipak.

The digipak was first trademarked by AGI-Shorewoood and consists of a book style paperboard or card stock outer case with one or more plastic trays capable of holding a CD. Unlike its alternative, a Jewel Case, which is a three piece plastic CD case that features a folding plastic case, a plastic CD tray and normally space for liner notes and back cards, the digipak is normally printed straight on to with the inclusion of other notes and booklets in pouches created within the digipak.

The Jewel case is much more popular than the digipak due to its cost effectiveness and ease of production, meaning that digipaks are normally used when exclusivity is wanted or a slightly smaller artist is promoting an album. This fits perfectly with our song choice as while two door cinema club have gained popularity in recent years, they are still not classed as a mainstream band and so would be the artists that would possibly be looking at creating a digipak.

When first studying digipaks I found many different templates relating to the number of panels, inclusion of pockets and general layout, I have opted to go for a 4 panel digipak with a single panel also having a pocket in which lyric books, biographys and other general information about the album and artist can be placed.

I started off with a concept designs for the front of my digipak which can be seen below, however after re-arranging shooting and using different shots, I decided against using this as my final product.

As you can see, this album cover features the brand syngery of two door cinema club, with the logo being the prominent text. After realizing that this album cover was for the single Settle and not the album Beacon, I decided against using it as it also displayed our performer in clothes not featured in our final piece.

This was due to lack of good shots on this shoot, so we decided to reshoot in a different environment and different clothing.

After reshooting our performance element I then decided on my final digipak design, which featured a variety of shots of both our performer as well as blank textures or our actor. click on the arrow below to navigate through the digipak as you would view it in its phsyical form
